New Photography 2010
Date: Wednesday, September 29th 2010 – Monday, January 10th 2011
Venue: Museum of Modern Art, 11 West 53rd Street
Lauded contemporary photographers Roe Ethridge, Elad Lassry, Alex Prager, and Amanda Ross-Ho, display their wares this fall on the third floor of MoMA. Each uses print media and cinema as a source of inspiration and meaning, from Lassry’s carefully chosen and self labeled “generic” images of commercial culture, to Ethridge’s smart reflections on photography itself. Prager’s photographs evoke filmic narratives, while Ross-Ho’s depart from the clean look of the other artists. Her loose assemblages of found images and lively mural size reproductions of her studio are distinctively unruly. Recommended.
