Galerie Lelong hosts five painters from (you guessed it) L.A.. The star of the show is clearly Whitney Bedford, whose quiet landscapes are executed with confident brushwork, great control of texture, and an excellent eye for composition; stencils mix with painterly passages mix with superflat passages in a wonderful celebration of painting. The other four artists are okay, and certainly competent—nothing is outright bad—but their works in this show aren’t anything to write home about, either. We strongly recommend visiting, almost entirely on the strength of Bedford’s work.
