Aspiring curators take note: Today is the first day for you to submit your exhibition proposal to Tribeca institution apexart for their annual Unsolicited Proposal Program.

The Unsolicited Proposal Program, now entering its fifteenth year, crowd-sources the art community for exhibition ideas. Entrants are asked to submit a 500 word proposal outlining the exhibition's goals. The proposals are anonymously judged by a panel of over 100 people, consisting of artists, curators, critics and others. Winners are guaranteed exhibition space in apexart's Church St. gallery, plus $5,000 for exhibition expenses and a $2,000 curatorial honorarium. New for this year, apexart will accept the top three submissions, adding an extra Unsolicited Proposal exhibition to their schedule.

The most recent exhibition spawned from the program was “The Walls That Divide Us.” The exhibition, designed by Tate St. Ives curator and AFC friend, Miguel Amado, analyzed the global culture of defining and designing impenetrable barriers in the wake of the Cold War. The program's alumni also includes Canadian artist Mark Soo, Govett-Brewster Art Gallery curator Mercedes Vicente,  Pakistani curator Atteqa Ali, and Brooklyn-based artists Gary Fogelson and Michael Hutcherson.

The deadline for submissions is February 17, 2012. More information, as well as the winning proposals from Amado, Vincente, and the other winners from the past nine years, can be found at apexart's website for the program.

It’s really great, isn’t it? Unfortunately, apexaet’s website doesn’t list which works are featured in the exhibition image gallery, and I can’t say I recognize the artist. I’ll look into this!
