Frieze New York Gets an 80-foot-tall “Balloon Dog”

by Corinna Kirsch on April 12, 2013 Art Fair

One of Paul McCarthy's previous inflatable sculptures, "Complicated Pile", 2007.

Frieze has announced the artists you’ll see scattered around the grounds of Randall’s Island this May at it’s second New York art fair. Franz West, Charles Long and Pae White are amongst the names, but we’re most excited about Paul McCarthy’s gargantuan sculpture. No images have been released thus far, but we do know that it will be an 80-foot-high inflatable “balloon dog”. We’re not sure how Jeff Koons will react to the news—he doesn’t like it when other people make balloon dogs—but if it includes his signature inflatable dog turd, he may be in the clear. Hopefully, this time, it won’t knock out any power lines.
