If et al’s exhibition, GRIND STONE, is any indication, discarded materials as medium often result in a beige palette. Pearson alters a small crate, giving it two handles and a pedestal. The title “Time Bomb”, might impart some anxiety, but it’s on a pedestal, which in the gallery world means it’s harmless. Art shouldn’t injure its buyer.
Peña takes a different approach, using discarded materials as the starting point for paintings that are caked in cement, resin, screws, etc. The result is a heavily worked, weathered beige painting. We approve.
