Color Wheel is a series in which we identify a trending color in art, and post a daily image that illustrates its popularity. This week’s color is yellow.
Our reasons for watching the Super Bowl pretty much stop at free snacks, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the sport through imagery. This is why we’ll be stopping by the Met’s “Gridiron Greats: Vintage Football Cards from the Jefferson R. Burdick Collection”.
Through next week only, you can see a selection of cards from the Syracuse electrician Jefferson R. Burdick, who began donating his collection of 30,000 cards, some as old as 1894, to the museum in 1947. Are trading cards art? Probably not, but they’re way closer than football.
The show also includes an AFC favorite, “Wes Fesler Kicking a Football,” which we last saw in the “Real/Surreal” show at the Whitney. We loved this.
The Super Bowl, readers, is happening on Sunday.
