Color Wheel is a series in which we identify a trending color in art, and post a daily image that illustrates its popularity. This week’s color is coral.
Looking over the Whitney Biennial’s 100-plus list of artists, it’s hard to say what they’ve all got in common. We do expect to find our fair share of abstract paintings, artists with Chicago affiliations (as two of the show’s curators, Anthony Elms and Michelle Grabner have strong ties to the city), and performance. Pretty much we’re expecting a grab bag of contemporary art, but among the painters listed there’s a strong emphasis on abstraction and playing around with materials, like in this Laura Owens work. She’ll be making a repeat appearance at the Whitney Biennial next week—she showed in the 2004 Biennial, too.
