- Curator Jens Hoffmann’s new book Show Time: The 50 Most Influential Exhibitions of Contemporary Art showcases his picks for the most important contemporary art exhibitions over the last 25 years. For the most part, Hoffmann’s picks include European mega-shows, reiterating his stance that as “the art world has become globalized, the international biennial has emerged as the ultimate exhibition format of our time, and the biennial curator [has become] an all-important arbiter of global art trends and tastes.” Perhaps, but it’s good to take this with a grain of salt when looking at the alternative to why so many biennials began popping up after the fall of the Berlin Wall; for one, there’s Julian Stallabrass’s view that biennials are yet another instance of neo-liberalism, serving to introduce a mix of blue-chip art all over the world, all the while generating income for the tourism industry. - Now that Richard Prince has been cleared of any wrongdoing with his “Canal Zone” series, those works will go on view at Gagosian’s Upper East Side gallery on May 8, 2014. In 2008, Gagosian generated over 10 million dollars in sales from an exhibition of works from that series. [New York Times]
